Sometimes I find myself with nothing to do, nothing on my mind. At times when I’m most alone, I think of my father, every bit of joy he had for life, living and those that were alive around him. As my wife would say, depression can roll in like a storm or linger in my spirit like an ever present black dog. His name, face, scent, voice & smile being the very thing that hinges my soul to the sorrow.
I’ve done my best to put it in the past, but nothing will ever replace him. Nothing will ever change the fact that I could’ve done better as a son. All I can do is pray for what’s left of the family & I’m not a man of faith.

When it’s quiet
The lights are low
I miss you more
Than you cared to know
& I fear
That storm rolling in
I whisper your name
My own black dogged hinge
Ooh, I’m goin down
For the drink
Every smoke
I believe
I've abandoned all hope
But I feel
I tried my best
For so many years
That I pray for the rest
