Deep Down 02:45
Verses: E // F#7 // A // Am // E // F#7 // Am Chorus: C#m // B7 // A // Am // C#m // B7 // Am // Late nights In a daunting room Make way for that sorrow You find around noon The very next day When all is well Deep, deep down, You simply don’t care As sure as it rains The sabbath makes rounds Some old winged goat Turned that cross upside down To beg of the land For peace where you lay Or ease where you’ve stood Down into that grave With late nights In daunting rooms That make way for a sorrow You’d find around noon The very next day When all is well But deep, deep down, You simply don’t —

Wasting Time 02:25
Bridge: F#m // E // A // Bm // E // A // E // F#m // D // E // Dm Verses: F#m // E // A // Bm // E // F#m // E // F#m // D // E // F#m // E // A // Bm // E // A // E // F#m // D // E // Dm Out in that summers heat making my bed down on the floor. Making up my mind next week Fighting for peace or joining the war. Learning my own way to smile, Trying my best, losing my mind. All alone in the wild, Finding myself and wasting time. Another soul among the stars Tasting the mold that would hold through my years. Numbing my pain with my scar Sounding it out to an innocent ear. Shivering right through each morn. Greeting each soul with my last goodbye Two more nights before I’m done Finding myself and wasting time.

First Bridge: C // C9 // Am // F // G // C C // C9 // Am // F // G // Am Verse C // C9 // Am // F // G // C Chrous: F // C // C9 // Am // G // C F // Am // C9 // C // F // G // C // F // C // G // C Second Bridge: C // C9 // Am // F // G // C C // C9 // Am // F // Fm I’ve numbered the days since driftin through one last caress I’ve closed my eyes, I’ve tried to sort through my mess The Dead River’s tide ain’t ever carried me home I’ve said goodbye one too many times from the road You walked away Once that bottle ran empty & the bills, they were bound to be late You never did stay You always left me alone When I’ve tried to drown out the pain On that Colorado wind pass the first two vacancy signs I found acoustics in Eustis that brought the last two towns to mind With no need for more Rancid, Dead Kennedys and Leftover Crack I’m screaming Sink Florida Sink, I’m hoping you’re calling me back You walked away Once that bottle ran empty & the bills, they were bound to be late You never did stay You always left me alone When I’ve tried to drown out the pain

Bridges/Verses: A // F#m // E // D Chorus: Bm // E Sweating through sheets never imagining who’s room it may have been next Learn to remember the face of the folks who are just broke enough to have sex Grinding their teeth, bare knuckle down, gas pedal glued to the floor Starting to cry, they’ve been missing their wine, swearing that they’ve never missed it more That smile just lights up that room Asleep in the sun room only waking up to the news once they steadied their gun. Sprawled out on the couch of a two story three bedroom house young filthy & drunk Road kill was taped to an oak in the front yard & the neighbors — they followed the stench Upstairs has flooded darkness has fallen... that home became a memory again That smile just lights up that room Every moment, faded with time - that empty pool slowly filled. Whenever it rains it is bound to start pouring inside this here circle of shells. A thousand more times, please turn it up, this part just ain’t loud enough. They may find it hard to see or believe but this just ain’t how things end up.

Em // B7 // Am B7 // Em // B7 // Am // B7 Cold feet Franklin tune What a sight Them years handed you Down on Virginia’s line All of that fault — it ain’t mine No bed of coal Would bring that blister to bleed Where this may go It’s too dark out to see Lower that load Rest that pain Raising that brow You don't dare say my name Tomorrow That mile may last Or turn again Back to emptiness

Sleep Well 03:11
Walk up: F // F# // G Verse / Chorus: Ab // Db // Ab // Ab9 // Ab // Fm // Eb Ab // Db // Ab // Ab9 // Fm // Eb Bridge: Db // Fm // Db // Eb Ab // Db // Ab // Ab9 // Fm // Eb // Ab Charlie, honey. Please calm your soul. She’s long gone & your sisters won’t be long. I know how it hurts but its in the good ole book. It's still a goodnight honey — Charlie, please sleep well. Charlie, honey. Please find your seat. I dare not speak on all the wrong I’ve seen. I know you’ve grown tired, I hear it in this night. It's still a goodnight honey - Charlie, please sleep well. Charlie, honey. Please don’t you want. You carved your own name in the woman's back that you shot. I know how you fear, I’ve had my blood in the sink. It's still a goodnight honey — Charlie, please sleep well. Yea Charlie, honey. Please go & pack your bag. You’ve chosen to sin, sixteen years old, well you’ve got it bad. I know I’ve no help, for a soul down in hell. It's still a goodnight honey — Charlie, please sleep well.

Take Me Now 03:18
Verses: D // Bm // G // D // A D // Bm // G // D // A // G // Gm Bridges: D // A // Bm // G // A D // A // Bm // G // Gm Take me now to where the marsh don’t ever end & just tell me how -- how it all goes hand in hand. Oh, just take me now to where that rivers runing still & just tell me how -- how a broken heart could heal. Take me now where to where there’s diamonds and there’s gold & just tell me how -- how there’s nothing in the cold. Oh, just take me now to where they season all the dives and just tell me how --how true love never dies. Take me now to where the autumn meets the fall & just tell me how -- how there’s beauty in it all. Oh, just take me now to where lovers say goodnight & just tell me how -- how an angel says goodbye.

Going Down 03:30
Bridges: Em // G9 // G // D // Em Verses: Em // G9 // G // D // Em Chrous: D // Em // G // D // Em When it’s quiet The lights are low I miss you more Than you cared to know & I fear That storm rolling in I whisper your name My own black dogged hinge Ooh, I’m goin down For the drink Every smoke I believe I've abandoned all hope But I feel I tried my best For so many years That I pray for the rest
9.
Verse: E // B7 // C#m Chrous: B7 // C#m Bridge: E // B7 // C#m if all the letters that i wrote to you were blowing smoke against the lonesome wind then all the tables where our hands have shook were never made of money that would spend soon enough they’ll close their eyes — i’ll lay their bones to rest down in their widowed beds & if you ever make it home i'll hope your soul forgave the fact that you weren’t there ain't no need to mind ain’t no need to lie ain't no need to try ain’t no need to cry all them trees, they still bend just like all the shores i’ve never cared to see i found you’re back to getting yours man I swear it seems you never want to leave you may have heard i’m doing well no, i’ve just learned what kind of love I ain't need man if i ever pass an ole post office i’ll let you know you've lost most everything

about

In March of 2020, there was a house show at The Connex with several well known acts performing. One of which was Matt Pless, who's been on the cover of Rolling Stones mag before. Another was Abby the Spoon Lady, who during our live feed of her performance, had hundreds of shares. There was also Spiddle, which was my personal favorite because they stole my heart with their folk/jazz fusion with a guitar, banjo & clarinet. Randi Johnson, Steve Ladensack & Charlie Shuck also played – some of my favorite local writers/performers.

The next morning was the second day at my new job. Steve needed to be dropped off at the greyhound before 6am to go back to Gainesville. I woke up around 430 that morning to go to work & drop him off – not having to be at work till 10am, I had plenty of time to kill.

Still high on good vibes from the night before, I found myself daydreaming about being able to relate to listeners as I witnessed so many performers do the night before. There’s no manual or instructional on how to write songs, no right or wrong way to write in order to relate to listeners. I wondered how I could start to practice doing something like this with my writing.

On my way to work, I figured I could try to start small by relating to the listeners I already have. At that time, I felt I was mainly background music while my loved ones smoked pot, rolled cigarettes or shared fond memories in story. It was rare to meet an individual while busking that would continue to listen to my music as my music on streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify & Apple Music had only been posted the previous summer.

Seeming that this concept was worthwhile (trying to write songs that my loved ones would want to listen to) these folks lived such different lifestyles and came from such different backgrounds. The concept was surely challenging. Figured it would be best if I’m going to write a song for a person, I could do better writing it about the person.

As far as the choice of artwork (with Charlie Shuck's help -- if ya ain't checked out his music or photography please visit charlieshuck.com) on my birthday in 2020, my partner took me to a boneyard & allowed me to take home a deer skull which I placed on my dashboard. In April of 2022, I was able to record my first music video with Exit 13 studios & found a turkey feather on the shores of the Atlantic near Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, which I placed in the deer skull's eye socket. This imagery goes everywhere with me.

If you would like to know more about the songs origins - if you visit my bandcamp via the web browser, you can visit each song's individual page where you can find the lyrics & credits.
